On April 2, an magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami struck the Solomon Islands causing casualties and significant damage. USNS Stockham is one of 16 Maritime Pre-Positioning Ships belonging to the MSC Pre-Positioning Program. The Navy is responding to a specific request on the part of the ambassador to Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
