When all are firmly fastened, press theminto shape by shutting the flower for an instantin the hollow of both hands ; then wind the endsof worsted left from each petal round the stem. Take now a long double thread of light greenzephyr, and fasten it to the stem; pass theneedle in at the outside of the overlappingpetal, near the edge, taking up about four ofthe circles of worsted; pass it back, to make aloop ; then back, to form a second loop. Makesuch a double loop over each of the overlap-ping petals, letting the needle go in deeplyenough to fasten them down to the petal under-neath. Wind the green zephyr at the base ofthe flower, to conceal the pink already woundthere and form the cup, and then wind it roundthe stem to the end of it. PANSY. Procure a mould two and a half inches wide,or, if you prefer, cut one of that width of. smooth card. Take two pieces, twelve incheslong, of brass wire, extremely slender, andwith it encircle the mould, which should beexactly the form of a half circle on the top,but be cut to a point on the other half, to formthe shape of the petal of a pansy. Take violet WORK DEPARTMENT. 289 zephyr, and wind it smoothly round the wire,to form the edge of the petal; then carry thezephyr lengthwise from one side of the wire tothe other, winding it over the wire each timethat it passes backwards and forwards, until themould is covered entirely. Then remove themould, and twist the wire ends firmly togetherat the point. Make two of these petals. Then, with a mould only two inches wide, make inprecisely the same manner three yellow leaves, one dark and two light, which, before removingthe mould, should be veined, by threading aneedle with violet wool, and making threelines from the point to about the centre of thepetal, diverging with the shape of the petal.
