The Company in question is known as The SantaCatalina Island Company, and as the chief share-holders are the three brothersBanning, it is often spoken of as The Banning Company. The history of the Island is briefly as follows: It was first discovered by Cabrillo in 1542, who called it San Salvador afterone of his two ships in which he voyaged. It was not again visited, so far as weknow, for sixty years, when Vizcaino came in 1602 and gave it the name of SantaCatal
