Another torturer, standing on her right, has takena coal from a bucket with a pair of pincers and holdsit to the crown of her head; while a third is blowingwith bellows at a fire that is set around her feet. Mean-while, with other figures at the left, stands a black-haired,black-bearded man, conspicuous in a scarlet robe, dam-asked with gold, who holds one hand over his heart. Cath-erine. The man in scarlet and gold robe, who appearedin the other picture with his hand on his heart, is herebeing dragged by two soldiers into the presenee of acrowned monarch, seated on a throne. Presumably itis the Emperor Maximinius, though, while his right handgrasps a sword, he holds in his left a blaek orb, sur-mounted by a cross. lie is attired in a bluish-green robewith a broad white collar and a broad border of whiteat the bottom of the skirt. The throne is set beneath ared canopy in a Gothic interior, which includes an archedentrance and a mullioned window. The subject possiblydepicts the fate of S. Catherines lover, who
