Swollen lymph gland at the base of a 62-year-old man's neck. This condition is also called lymphadenopathy. The glands are lymph nodes, regions of the body at which white blood cells aggregate. These cells are a major part of the immune system, and during infections the lymph nodes may swell up and become tender. This response was due to a mediastinal neuroendocrine tumour. This is a cancer of the interface between the nervous and hormonal systems, which is located in the mediastinum (chest cavity).
