Decommissioning nuclear power station . Germany

Greifswald was the largest nuclear plant at the time of the German Democratic Republic. In the newly reunified Germany, adapting the power plant to western safety standards was too expensive and ended in 1990. Today the old power plant is called Energiewerke Nord (EWN), the sole shareholder of the Federal Ministry of Finance, and its new task is to dismantle it, decontaminate and store radioactive waste. Together with that of Fukushima, this is the most impressive decommissioning project in the world.
