This machine was operated in public as originally-constructed in the years 93 and 94. It will be ob-served by mechanics that the shutter is fixed in placeand the machine is so constructed that the loop wasabsolutely necessary. Before it could be used other-wise it would have been rapidly broken. This machine, as can be observed, had originallywood for the sprocket wheels, in which were drivenGerman silver pins. These sprockets were taken outand brass sprockets were added in 1895 and wereused, until July, 1897. This machine was in constant. use, giving exhibitions in the city of New York andwithin a distance of 300 to 400 miles from the city. As far as we can gather the information, this wasthe second machine ever put out. To those whomwe showed the machine, nothing but expressions ofsurprise and admiration emanated. They were highin their praise, they wanted to buy it, and take itright away, but to every one our reply was No, thankyou, this is not for sale. It is too valuable to selland almost too valuable to keep. But, nevertheless,this machine can be seen by all interested parties, andwe may say the machine is for sale if the proper priceis offered for it, and so that burglars may not break inour office, we will say the machine is in a place wheresneaks cannot break in and take it. This machine shows an open film winder fromwhich the film descended into a box, basket, or otherreceptacle.
