Winter on Peel Crag above Hadrian's Wall one of the dramatic landscapes in Northumberland National Park

A winter sunset viewed over Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland. The view is looking down on the roman wall at this point from Peel Crags which is a steep rock outcrop that carries the Roman Wall and the Hadrian's Wall long distance footpath over the section of the Whin Sill above Steel Rigg about two miles west of Housesteads. The sun is setting over the northern Pennines, in the middle distance the south Tyne valley is mist covered due to a temperature inversion.
