Manet: Portraying Life press view at the Royal Academy of Arts in London
A Royal Academy of Arts employ poses for a photograph during a Manet: Portraying Life press view next to Manet’s The Railway, 1873 in London Britain 22 January 2012. The Railway, 1873 depicts one of Manet’s favourite models, Victorine Meurent, posing with a young girl in front of the railings of Gare Saint-Lazare, Paris. It is the first time this painting has been on display in London. The Royal Academy’s major exhibition Manet: Portraying Life, features over 50 paintings spanning the career of this archetypal modern artist. The exhibition examines the relationship between Manet’s portrait painting and his scenes of modern life.
