Reconstruction of the Arles basilica. Archaeologist working with a computer model of the early Christian basilica discovered in Arles, France. A reconstructed view of the basilica is shown at top. An amphitheatre (semi-circular structure) is seen in front of the basilica's main facade. This basilica, thought to be one of the first cathedrals in what was then Gaul, was discovered in 2003. The remains date from the 4th century, when the Roman Empire had adopted Christianity as its official religion.
