THE NORTHERN COUNTIES HUNTS 43 The Coquetdale, North Tyne, and the Haydon The Coquetdale is another moorland pack oftwenty couples hunted by Mr R. Basil Hoare, whohas held the mastership since 1901. And the samedescribes the North Tyne with ten couples, underthe mastership of Mr James Murray, who in 1912succeeded the late Mr Thomas Robson, who wasmaster for nearly twenty years. The Haydon area pack of twenty couples under the mastership of. vv< m scent to view, Mr C. T. Maling, hunting a tract of pasture andmoorland which lies in Northumberland. The Morpeth The Morpeth, with its tine pack of hounds, hasbeen described as the Belvoir of the North, andduring the mastership of Mr R. Clayton Swan, 1894-1902, won with bitches at Peterborough. For aperiod of forty years the country was hunted bythe Messrs Cookson, father and son, between 1854and 1894, who bred a smart pack of hounds andshowed the best of sport. When Mr Swan retiredin 1902 the hounds were sold to Mr A. B. Cresswell 44 THE FOXHOUND OF THE XXth CENTURY for £3000, their value having been settled by experts ;but being unable to hunt in Northumberland theywere resold to the succeeding master, Mr F.
