. Atlas of the rare vascular plants of Ontario. Rare plants; Botany. HABITAT: Dunes, sandy woods, and shallow soil over linnestone. STATUS: Rare in Canada. Threatened in Michigan and Wisconsin. NOTES: Iris lacustris is endemic to the shorelines of lakes Erie, Huron, and Michigan. It is currently under review in the United States for threatened or endangered status (United States Fish & Wildlife Service 1985). According to Krotkov (1940), the distribution of Iris lacustris on the Bruce Peninsula is "shores of Lake ; A collection at TRT nnade by Krotkov in 1933 from "Big Bay" was not plotted because it is on the Georgian Bay side of the Bruce Peninsula. The locality on the label is likely an error since it was not included in Krotkov's 1940 description of this plant's distribution on the peninsula.
