The crytptic colourationof the Black-faced Sandgrouse shows that it is a ground nesting bird that prefers the more open arid grassland areas of eastern Africa. The male has more distinct facial markings. They collect in large flocks to drink when water is restricted and will fly great distances to and from the nests and the dependant chicks.
