Yoghurt bacteria. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of bacteria (coloured) among the milk solids from a yoghurt. There are rod-shaped bacteria (bacilli, brown) and chains of spherical bacteria (cocci, round). Two common bacteria found in yoghurts are Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus. They can be incubated at high temperatures to ferment milk in the making of yoghurt. Magnification: x4650 at 6x7cm size.
