After some yearsthey removed to Sherman, where Mr. Morrisdied in 1S().S, aged seventy-seven years. Hiswife passed away in 1873, at eighty years ofage. Lorenzo Morris attended the common .schools,then entered the old Mayville academy, fromwhich he was graduated in 183(i, and was after-wards engaged in leaching for a few years. In1837 he turned his attention to the .study of law,and read for two years with Hon. In 1840 lie went to Jamestownwhere he read for one year with Jndge Cooke,and after being admitted to practice in the courtof common pleas became a partner of his pre-ceptor. The law tiien recpiircd seven years ofpractice as a requisite for admission as an attor-ney before the supreme court of the State, butmade a reduction of time in favor of those whohad pursued classical studies, and Mr. Morrishaving; a certificate of a classical course of read-ing, was admitted as an attorney of the supremecourt in 1844, at the end of only three yearspractice in the lower courts. In the same yearhe removed to Mayville and practiced until1852, when he came to Fredonia wher& he hasbeen in active and successful practice ever 1838 he was commissioned by Gov. WilliamH. Seward as lieutenant-colonel of the 207thregiment, N. Y
