A spirit of peace prevailed, exceptingsuch social and political disturbances as were incidentto the change ot government from the Swedes to theDutch, and from the Dutch to the English, for a periodof thirty years. There was no edict over them fromruler or priest, indeed, not even a dread of politicalprovisions or religious persecutions of any kind.
