Royal banquet, 15th century, (1910). Artist: Unknown

Royal banquet, 15th century, (1910). At this time the pourpoint - a short jacket - was worn with mahoitres - padded shoulders. Long poleyns, shoes which were stuffed and padded to prevent them folding over, were worn by the serving men and minstrels too. Illustration from British Costume during 19 Centuries by Mrs Charles H Ashdown, (London, 1910).
