The buildings are of the former Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party (from where Nicolae Ceauşescu and his wife fled by helicopter on 22 December 1989) but now houses the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform. The statue is of Iuliu Maniu, a politician who served as Romania's prime minister on three occasions between 1928 and 1933.
