In 1514Erasmus, who was again in England, accompanied Colet on apilgrimage to Beckets shrine at Canterbury, where the Deanopenly ridiculed the supposed virtue of the horrible relics of that martyr which he was expected to venerate. Colet died in peace1519, but it has always been an interesting question whether, hadhe lived fifteen years later, he would have been found on the sideof his friend More, or with the more thoroughgoing reformerssuch as Latimer.
