He was re-electedin 1892, at which time he made a speechbefore the House of Representatives whichbrought him national attention. In 1894.\lr. Bryan declined a third nomination toCongress. On July 10, 1896, he was nominated forthe presidency bythe DemocraticNational Conven-tion in Bryan madea remarkable cam-paign in the sum-mer and autumn of1896, wherein hetraveled 18,831miles all over thecountry and deliv-ered 592 speechesin 447 towns andcities, covering 27states. At this elec-tion Mr. Brvan wasdefeated bv In 1900 he wasre-nominated forpresident, but wasagain defeated atthe polls bv In 1<I(5 Ik-madea tour arouiul (heworld and as aprominent citizenof the Inited Stateswas recei\ed withmuch honor in every country he visited.
