Perennial; rootstock rather thick and fleshy; stemerect, i5°-3° high, comparatively slender, angled,perfectly glabrous, or the upper parts sparingly pu-bescent with very short hairs. Leaves large, thin,ii-3i long, 1-2 wide, the lower obtuse, the upperacute or acuminate; petioles slender. io-2o long;peduncles 5-8 long, erect, in fruit reflexed; calyxsmooth, its lobes ovate-triangular or broadly lanceo-late, generally a little shorter than the tube; corollayellow with a dark center, about 10 in diameter:anthers generally yellow, sometimes tinged with pur-ple; fruiting calyx large, il-i* long, I-il in diam-eter, pyramidal to ovoid-conic, indistinctly lo-angled,deeply sunken at the base: berry small, in tlie centerof the calyx.
