German civilians look at the bodies of Jewish women exhumed from a mass grave in Volary. The victims died at the end of a death march from Helmbrechts, a sub-camp of Flossenbuerg. Actions like this were part of the Denazification process. This process was an attempt to rid Germany and Austria culture and society of nazi influence and ideology. A part of the process included confronting the public with the evidence of the crimes that were carried out in their area.
