CAULIFLOWER One ounce of seed will produce about 3000 plants Coliflor, Sp. Blumenkohl, Ger. Culture.—For earliest Cauliflower, raise plants by sowing in hotbed or greenhouse during January or February, and transplant to flats or cold frames, 2 or 3 inches apart each way. Set in open ground as soon in spring as the land can be put in good order. Soil to be a warm, very rich, fibrous loam, well supplied with humus and moisture. Copious water applications during dry weather, especially when the plants are heading, and light dressings of nitrate of soda and potash are of much help. Set plants to 2J feet apart each way. "When heads are formed and are hard, they should be blanched by drawing the leaves together and tying with raphia, or strips of soft cloth. For late Cauliflower, to mature during the pickling season (August 15th to Oc- tober 10th), start plants in open ground like late cabbages, and handle them like that crop. Dry=weather Cauliflower. (See Special- ties, page 5.) Pkt., 25 cts.; Joz., § DREER'S Earliest Snowstorm. (Seecut.) The best and earliest strain of Cauliflower on the market, both for forcing and for growing in the open ground. It is a dwarf variety, with short outer leaves, and always makes a fine, large and exceedingly beautiful, snowy- vrhite head, much earlier than any other va- riety.
