An Army Reserve Soldier of the 409th Engineer Company, Windsor, Colorado, performs basic first aid to a simulated casualty during urban search and rescue training at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, April 29. The casualties represented victims of an explosion with chemical contamination in a multi-story urban building. Rescue teams were challenged by dark nighttime conditions, smoke and debris, which often concealed victims throughout the building. Soldiers remained in full chemical suits for up to two hours, testing their ability to function, communicate and perform fine motor skills.
