ARLINGTON, Virginia, United States — Rows of white marble headstones stretch across the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery, creating a solemn and visually striking landscape. These uniform gravestones mark the final resting places of American servicemen and women, as well as notable civilians. The meticulously maintained cemetery serves as a powerful tribute to those who have served the United States, offering a place for remembrance and reflection on the sacrifices made for the nation.

Arlington National Cemetery spans 639 acres in Arlington, Virginia, just across the Potomac River from Washington, Established during the American Civil War, it is the final resting place for more than 400,000 active duty service members, veterans, and their families. The cemetery conducts between 27 and 30 funeral services each weekday. The distinctive white marble headstones are uniform in size and spacing, arranged in long, precise rows across the rolling landscape. Each headstone typically includes the name of the deceased, their rank, service branch, date of birth, date of death, and may include awards such as the Medal of Honor. Some headstones may feature religious emblems. The cemetery is home to several significant memorials, including the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, guarded 24 hours a day by members of the 3rd Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). Section 60, dedicated to casualties of the Global War on Terror, is often visited by family members and comrades of the recently fallen. Arlington National Cemetery is open to the public daily, with millions of visitors coming each year to pay their respects, attend memorial services, or participate in educational programs about American military history and sacrifice.
