Max Carl Ludwig Wittmack (September 26, 1839 - February 2, 1929) was a German botanist. He was curator at the Agricultural Museum in Berlin, and supervised the plant breeding. From 1889 to 1891 and again from 1910 to 1913 he was Director of the Agricultur


Max Carl Ludwig Wittmack (September 26, 1839 - February 2, 1929) was a German botanist. He was curator at the Agricultural Museum in Berlin, and supervised the plant breeding. From 1889 to 1891 and again from 1910 to 1913 he was Director of the Agricultural Institute. He held numerous honorary positions. The plant genus Wittmackia Mez from the family of bromeliads (Bromeliaceae) has been named in his honor. He died in 1929 at the age of 89.
