Here began the great revival inour portion of the Church, under the minis-try of John Tennent.* Here was the firstregular ordination of a minister by the firstPresbytery of our Church in this country. It is a surprise that a locality, thus inti-mately associated with the early history ofour Church, has been so little known and. FREEHOLD, NOW TENNENT CHURCH. of Freehold. On that old ScotsBurial Acre, now overgrown with large trees,are many tombstones, and among them standsthat of John Boyd, with a Latin inscription,now almost illegible. The Tennent Church, because ofits association with the famous WilliamTennent, Jr., who was its pastor for fortyyears, and because of its association withthe Revolutionary scenes of the Battle ofMonmouth, has overshadowed the originalchurch and obscured its memory.
