The sides of the rods are milled in tliesame manner, two rods usually being milled at one inserted tooth cutter used for this work is shown inFig. 8. The body is made of axle steel and the 16 teethare made of high speed steel. They are formed hot in adie to the shape shown in the drawing. They are insertedin corresponding slots in the axle steel body and are heldin position by six thimbles having a tapered, flattened sur-face where they bear against the teeth. These thimbles areheld in the body of the cutter by ;~^-in. machine cutters are S^^-in. in diameter and 11 in. long. Threeof them are used on one mandrel as shown in Fig. 7.
