A Centennial of Independence by Henri Rousseau (1844-1910). Oil on canvas, 1892. Rousseau was a French Post-Impressionist painter in the Naïve or Primitive manner and he did this painting to commemorate the one-hundredth anniversary of the proclamation of the first French Republic in 1792.
