A army Chinook Helicopter transports eight 1 ton bags of sand to the breech of the river Douglas near Croston in West Lancashire

An Army Chinook Helicopter watched by Environment Agency workers delivers another load of 1 ton bags of sand to the breech of the river Douglas near Croston in West Lancashire. The river had broken its banks following heavy rain fall and the breech is visible here along with the flooded farm land on the wrong side of the embankment. The helicopter was used as the alternative of building a emergency access road was impractical due to the amount of water and the isolated area where the power of the water had breached the embankment. Meanwhile there are powerful pumps in use removing water from the flooded farmland.
