KNEE LIGAMENT, DRAWING

The knee joint is the articulation between the thigh bone (femur) and the leg bones (tibia and fibula). The knee cap, or patella completes the articulation anteriorly. The region behind the knee joint is called the popliteal area. Two important ligaments within the knee joint, the anterior cruciate ligament and the posterior cruciate ligament, maintain joint stability. The ligaments are shown in blue.
