Abscess following shaving on the groin of a 58 year old female patient. An abscess is a swollen pus-filled bump beneath the skin's surface. They occur when a skin injury or hair follicle becomes infected with bacteria. Ingrown hairs caused by shaving the vaginal area can be a cause of abscesses. Shaving in the direction of hair growth and changing razors frequently can help prevent them.
