The tilapia is a group of African fishes, accelerated growth, disease resistance, adaptation to captivity and feeding open to multiple elements. Its white flesh and make it easy acceptance of great commercial interest. It lives in tropical warm waters, both sweet and salty, has been adapted in Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Southeast Asia. Among the varieties include the Blue Nile tilapia and Mozambique. The blue tilapia, Oreochromis aureus, has been widely introduced in America as a food resource, but with strong impacts due to their aggressiveness, displacing native species and reducing biodiversity. La tilapia o mojarra es un grupo de peces de origen africano, de crecimiento acelerado, resistencia a las enfermedades, adaptacion al cautiverio y alimentacion abierta a multiples elementos. Su carne blanca y de facil aceptacion la hacen de gran interes commercial. Habita en aguas calidas tropicales, tanto dulces como salada, se ha adptado en Mexico, Centroamerica, el Caribe y el sudeste asiatico. Entre sus variedades destacan la tilapia del Nilo la azul y la de Mozambique. La tilapia azul, Oreochromis aureus, se ha introducido ampliamente en America como recurso alimenticio pero con fuertes impactos por su agresividad desplazando especies locales y disminuyendo la biodiversidad.
