The 1250 acre site esso refinery at Fawley in Southampton currently handles some 2500 ship movements a year. 5% of Fawleys production is distributed by road or rail,25% by sea and 70% by pipelines. Within the site Exxon Chemical ltd have since 1966 operated a chemcal maunfacturing complex.
