Deepwater Horizon oil rig fire, Gulf of Mexico. Fire boats dousing the flames of the offshore oil rig Deepwater Horizon on 21st April 2010. The fire broke out after an explosion on the rig on 20th April. The rig sank on 22nd April. After the disaster the well was leaking over five thousand barrels of oil a day into the Gulf of Mexico, 80 kilometres from the coast of Louisiana, harming local wildlife and fishing industries.
