The term of office is sixyears. STATE HOUSE, located at Springfield. Itsconstruction was begun under an act passed bythe Legislature in February, 1867, and completedin 1887. It stands in a park of about eight acres,donated to the State by the citizens of Spring-field. A provision of the State Constitution of1870 prohibited the expenditure of any sum inexcess of ,000 in the erection and furnishingof the building, without previous approval
