The society numbers about sixty members and covers the ground from Katonah to Chappaqua, includ- ing almost every gardener of promi- nence im that section. H. Spavins, the florist at Mt. Kisco, was its secretary for twelve years, and carries a fine gold watch as evidence of tte society's appreciation. M. J. O'Brien, manager of the Harriman estate, is the present secretary; George Andrews, president; G. Ganun, treasurer, and F. Kirkman, corresponding secretary. The hotel was nicely decorated for the banquet by Messrs. Andrews, Thomson and Wills. Messrs. Maynard, Bickards, Kennedy, Burnett and MeTaggert were the new York visitors, and all gave interesting addresses. Masters William and Eobert Burnett, of New York, gave many solos on the piano and violin, and Messrs. Loy and Gififord, of Weehaw- ken, furnished the vocal entertainment, their popular songs being especially ap- preciated. J. A. Shaw was toastmaster. J. A. S. FBEEPOST, lUt. On visiting this city, I was gratified to hear that our brother florist, John Bauscher, Jr., who is one of the county supervisors and has personal charge of the money intended for distribution among the destitute, has so ably man- aged the funds intrusted to him that, for the first time in fifty years, it is not necessary for the county to resort to a special tax levy to take care of the needy.
