Looking E at the Merry Maidens stone circle, Boleigh, Cornwall: a perfect circle 78ft () across of 19 stones, evenly spaced at 12ft () apart except for a 20ft () gap at the E which may be a cardinal point entrance. Restored in the 1860s, a second (paired?) circle was destroyed in the C19th. Folklore says a group of girls were turned to stone for dancing on the Sabbath (Sunday). Their two petrified musicians, The Pipers standing stones, are close by. A public footpath runs through the circle.
