Cheetah and cubs (Acinonyx jubatus). Female cheetahs give birth to between one and eight cubs after a gestation period of 90-95 days. The young resemble the adults but possess a light mane that extends across the nape of the neck. The cheetah is gregarious; the father often helps to raise the young and the cubs may remain with their mother even when fully grown. A. jubatus is found throughout non-forested areas of Africa south of the Sahara and in Arabia from Iran to Kazakhstan. Photographed in South Africa.
