A Hellenistic amethyst intaglio with the portrayal of Artemis, 2nd century BC Pale, oval amethyst, the reverse strongly, the obverse weakly domed. The goddess as recessed relief standing and facing left. One hand resting on a column, the other at her waist. Quiver on her back, over her head the folds of her gown flying in the wind. At her feet a roe deer gazing at her. Finely crafted, charming motif on large gemstone. Edges slightly bumped, crack at centre, otherwise intact. Length cm.
