A scavenger sorts out the plastic waste he collects for recycling at the Kawatuna landfill, Palu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia on January 22, 2020. The economic potential for recycling plastic waste is huge because based on the results of an environmental audit by Greenpeace in 2019, only 9 percent of the waste plastic is recycled, 12 percent is burned and 79 percent ends up in landfills and waterways like rivers that run into the ocean. Indonesia is the second largest waste producer in the world after China.
