Beaded purse with a gold bracket and hook, The cast purse bracket consists of two equal, hingedly connected, arcuate halves with a scalloped contour. Each bracket half shows a sitting, young Mercury with his winged helmet and aesculape on a roughened ground in the middle, a putto with mirror (Prudentia) on the left corner and a putto with a staff and mask (theater) on the right corner. The ends are shaped like dolphins. The edges are decorated with C-volutes on which flower garlands depend. Both bracket halves are provided with thirteen eyelets at the bottom, to which the beaded purse is attached. Between the halves is a smooth inner bracket with fifteen holes. The pins of the hinges have rosette-shaped heads. Both bracket halves have a closed bar at the top with a ball, together forming the cut with which the bracket closes. The top edge has two eyelets. Attached to this are the chains, consisting of alternating, profiled and non-profiled oval links, which connect the bracket to the hook. The front part of the hook has the shape of two crossed dolphins, which keep the eyelets in front of the chains and whose tails, ending in leaf crowns, flank a rosette. The pointed back piece is hinged to it and has a tab at the end. The purse, which was probably made around 1900, shows a rose on the front and back, and a swimming duck on a light and dark blue background., Lourens van Hassel (attributed to), Amsterdam, 1778, beugel, kralen, voering, knitting, h cm h cm × w cm × d cm w gr
