Super Typhoon Durian caused huge volcanic ash mudslides from Mayon Volcano, Albay Province,Central Philippines, 30 November 2006


30 November 2006 Albay Province,Central Philippines - Super Typhoon Durian (known as ‘Reming’ in the Philippines) brought a deadly combination of torrential rains brought on by the Typhoon together with leftover volcanic ash from the Mayon Volcanic eruption earlier. The resultant heavy rainfall turned out to be a disaster for the region and between November 26 - December 1, 2006 between 50 millimetres - 250 millimetres of rain flooded entire areas around the Mayon volcano with mud from volcanic ash covering houses and villages. Widespread flooding occurred in Legazpi city, roads and bridges were wrecked, almost 1,000 people died and many more made homeless.
