St. Francis brings the wolf to the city. Saint Francis of Assisi, born Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone, 1181/1182 – 1226. Italian Catholic friar, deacon and preacher. He supposedly persuaded a wolf to stop attacking some locals if they agreed to feed the wolf. From The Book of Saints and Heroes, published 1912.
