The granite and limestone Brooklyn War Memorial, in Brooklyn's Cadman Plaza Park, is dedicated to the 300,000 American men and women who served, and the Brooklynites who died, in the 2nd World two larger-than-life relief figures, by sculptor Charles Keck, known for his 1936 statue of Father Francis Duffy in Manhattan's Duffy Square, depict a sorrowful male warrior on the left and a female with a child to the right. They serve as symbols of victory and the family. In the end, Brooklyn was the only New York borough to build such a large-scale 2nd World War monument. The memorial was dedicated November 12, 1951. The full plan was never built because of a lack of funds. The memorial was restored in 1977.
