In March, 1814, Mr. Meigswas appointed by President Madison postmaster-general, and being continued in that office by Presi-dent Jlonroe, remained in the cabinet until the endof 1833, when he retired from public life. He diedMarch 39, 1825. WOBTHINGTOIT, Thomas, governor of Ohio(1814-18), was born in Jefferson county, Va., , 1769. His parents were wealthy, and after re-ceiving an excellent education, in 1796 he joinedwith Edward TiiHn and a partyof explorers, visited Marietta,Cincinnati, and other settlementsalong the Ohio, finally locatingin the Scioto Valley.
