Mrs. Hubbard, whoso maiden name was Sargent, hadcome to the State in 1834 with her brother-in-law, HenryFificld, from Essex Co., Mass., and located at October, 183G, Mr. Fifield and his family and MissSargent came to Ingham County and settled in the town-ship of Vevay, south of Mason. Mr. Fificld was thereforeone of the first settlers in the township. Their goods hadbeen ferried across Grand River in a small dug-out, , in Jackson County, and they were two daysmaking the journey to their location in Vevay. Afterbuilding his house Mr. Fifield had to wait until the river.
