A Roma, or Gypsy, child on a street in Slutsk, a city some 100 kilometers, or 60 miles, south of the country's capital, Minsk. With the fall of the Soviet Union, poverty became more apparent in public places. Officially, begging is not allowed, and this child is being somewhat circumspect.
