Soldiers and airmen from the Colorado National Guard set up a checkpoint at the bridge crossing over the St. Vrain River into Lyons, Colo., were flooding destroyed homes and businesses making it an unsafe area to go, Sept. 16, 2013. According to the National Weather Service, more than 12 inches of rain have fallen since Sept. 1, breaking the 73-year-old record for precipitation for the month.
