Naples, Italy. Castel Nuovo (English: "New Castle"), often called Maschio Angioino (English: "Angevin Keep"), is a medieval castle located in front of Piazza Municipio and the city hall (Palazzo San Giacomo) in central Naples, Campania, Italy. It is scenic location and imposing size makes the castle, first erected in 1279, one of the main architectural landmarks of the was the seat of the kings of Naples, Angioini, Aragonesi and Borbone until 1734. The last important event dates back to 1799, when the birth of the Neapolitan Republic was proclaimed.
